Set up trash service and find your trash day
There is nothing to sign up for: the City of Royal Oak includes weekly trash, recycling and seasonal yard waste collection in property taxes. Priority Waste collects under contract with the Department of Public Services.

Find your weekly collection day on the city's collection day map.

Set trash, recycling and yard waste at the curb by 7 a.m. (or after 5 p.m. the night before). Collection runs 7 a.m.–8 p.m.

Recycling goes out loose in a green 64-gallon cart or 18-gallon bin; yard waste goes in paper bags or a 20–32 gallon can with a SOCRRA compost sticker.

Common questions
- Do holidays change my trash day?
- Yes. When New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day or Christmas falls on a weekday, collection for the rest of that week is one day late. Thanksgiving week only Thursday and Friday shift, to Friday and Saturday. Weekend holidays cause no delay.
- When is yard waste collected?
- Yard waste is not collected from early December through March 31, according to the city.
- Can I buy a trash or recycling cart?
- The city sells 64-gallon refuse and recycling carts for $55 each, delivered to your home.
